I like Bill O'Reilly and other evidences of My conservatism...
Friday, January 6th, 2006 08:31 pmAnd obvious need for enlightenment.
I like Bill O'Reilly. My favorite part of the Factor (though it used to be my least favorite) is the letters section at the end. I love it when he'll read letters from viewers and they go a little something like this.
Bill, you're such a Conservative! You'll say anything to back up the President!
Followed by:
Bill, cut the President some slack! These are trying times and he's doing a great job. Why don't you find someone else to pick on?
I just love that his own viewers think he's too liberal or too conservative. It's a big deal to call him the President's lapdog because Michael Moore has said that he's on the Fox News Network and that network is run by the Bushes so anything on it is a bunch of lies!!!
My favorite is this recent gem from when he was on the Letterman Show:
And while Letterman admitted he doesn't watch The Factor, he had this overall assessment: 'I have the feeling about 60% of what you say is crap ? I don't think you represent an objective viewpoint.' The conversation concluded like this?"
O'REILLY: You have to give me an example if you're going to make those statements.
LETTERMAN: Well, I don't watch your show, so that would be impossible.
O'REILLY: Then why would you come to that conclusion if you don't watch the program?
LETTERMAN: Because of things that I've read, things that I know.
Well there you go. Things he knows and things he's read! Good one! WOW! That's like "anonymous tip!" Great. Not to be rudely sarcastic, but how open minded is it not to even give it a chance. I started watching the show with the most closed minded viewpoint I could take.
If we all listened to what our childhood best friends said, how different would we be? No! We were adventurous and tried new things!
I am tired of the old song and dance that some "open-minded" people take with conservatives. I've seen two personality traits that I find obnoxious. A) Acting snobbish and as though possessing a superior education B) and this is related to A, acting as though I am incapable of making decisions for myself and need someone else to make them for me.
To people that act like this, I just want to ask if the thought never occurred to them that I have considered that point of view, tested and dismissed it as failing to pass.
It may let you sleep better as night to envision me as somehow being less intelligent now that I've decided to openly be conservative, but I'll still be conservative and intelligent as ever.
There's a co-worker in particular who is really loud at stating his opinions. I don't challenge him because I'm trying to learn the new team and adjust. Maybe when we have a good working relationship, I can build up to challenge his ideas. But he's one of those Bible Beating atheists. Has knowledge, but either misapplies it or misinterprets it.
Ah well. Just a pet peeve. I'm tired of people so full of themselves that they think I need other people to think for me.
Good advice from Prudie! I think its what knocked some sense into me with my last failed relationship.
Dear Lost,
Hard to believe, but when you're 50 you might not even remember this chap's name. Despite the way you're feeling now, you are just at the beginning of your romantic life. Prudie has a mechanistic suggestion for you: Harness some underlying anger to break the bond with this man. If you feel no anger, you should. Anybody whose relationship can be turned on its head because of rumors shows a complete lack of trust in you, not to mention commitment, and that should make you furious. Next time he calls—if he calls—tell him you agree that not being together is for the best. That ought to settle his hash. And you will feel soooo much better.
—Prudie, knowledgeably
Sometimes you just have to get angry about it! You deserve better, girl. Go out and get it! The writer was concerned she'd be a 50 year old bitter maid pining for her lost love. Poor girl.
I got a lovely compliment from a friend the other day. He said that he always loved my writing! Awww, way to get to the English major in me. He even fed that ego a little by saying I should write a book! I really need to get that degree too. Everyone else who decided to go that route AFTER me will have it BEFORE me. But I'm thinking of teaching or going for the teaching degree anyway. I don't know if I would apply it or not. But how fun would it be to get together with a bunch of my peers and discuss and debate and formulate!? Exciting stuff, guys!
Other than that I watched King Kong last night. I enjoyed it. Much more than I thought I would even. Naomi Watts is beautiful. Jack Black was indescribly Jack Black but in an entertaining way. And Adrian Brody was incredible! Every time I started thinking of him is truly attractive, I would just imagine his retard character in the Village! It was great for laughs. But I really liked the movie even if it did drag on for 3 hours. Who noticed? I think Matt jumped at least once.
And now for the positive things:
1. I am confused by evolution! This is at the very least entertaining for me.
2. I have sick days and a job!
3. I was able to level my WoW character during my sick days this week.
4. Matt is making room for my stuff at house!
5. I am a King's kid.
6. Scheduled appointment with vet.
7. Got new SSN card!
Since when is nature random?
