I voted and other things
Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 06:41 pmI shared my early voting experience in this post.
This album was sitting on my desk in a pile of other CDs I need to put away. This is the first song on the album. It's a great traveling song.

My sister called and we chatted for a bit. That was nice. She convinced me to do NaNoWriMo this year.
I caught up with a friend from high school who I has missed at the reunion. As a result of some news from that conversation, I've reached out to some other friends. It's so fascinating to see my personal growth over the years. To find out the things I've become aware of. You know 12 years ago, friendships were a natural and important part of my life. Now they are very difficult to manage and maintain. There just isn't enough time in the day to visit with people it would seem. And now I had to make time. We only make time for things that important to us and having relationships hasn't been one of those things. Fascinating!
I'm cooking chicken and dumplings. Just the chicken is cooking at the moment. I've got to go cook some breakfast now too. I put in for a crazy shift at work. Friday and Monday will be 12.5 hour days. Saturday at 6.5 hour day. It's a 30 hour week and it's a crazy length, but I figure it's best to get the time out of the way. Besides, if you know you're going to be there all day, you just relax and let your mind deal with being there. It seems to go faster that way. But I'll need to get into the habit of making precooked meals or easy to cook meals, especially for Friday and Monday.
I also took Chakotay out yesterday for some training. We went to PetSmart. He did the Bambi on ice thing when we talked in the front door. He was pretty good though. He needs work still, but it wasn't that bad. I bought him a frisbee and then we went to the dog park. He immediately picked up the frisbee throw. That's been a lifelong dream of mine--to have a dog that catches a frisbee. I'd read all sorts of ways to train the dog to go for the frisbee. So it was funny that Chakotay immediately figured out what I wanted. He even managed to catch a few tosses mid-air! And as usual, there was a kid in the park who wanted to toss it for him as well. This kid was awesome though. Chakotay didn't like this one pug. I think he was trying to play with it, but he has a dominant sort of play that isn't a wanted behavoir. After a few skirmishes, I put him back on the leash. I should have brought the longer lead so I could correct him, but I know for next time. This kid, though, comes straight up to us. A big german shepherd on leash usually equals people giving him a wide berth. Not this kid. He asked if the dog was ok and immediately launches into what I would call guy play with the dog. That is rough house petting including give him the big ol' thunderous pat on the side. He was completely unworried about the dog. And as a result, Chakotay was immediately relaxed and went into submission. Now of course, I don't recommend everyone do this to any dog that worries them. It was only because I was standing there and I knew how Chakotay would react that I let the kid pet him. But still it said a lot for that kid and I was impressed.
Now off to finish dinner!

Monday, October 20th, 2008 02:54 pmSo I got up early at 10:30 this morning. That is early because it's my day off. But so far I have done NOTHING! That's not true entirely. I have done a lot of work at my desk including balancing the checkbook.
My goals for the day include:
-vacuum the house
-carpet clean the living room
-clear off the dining table from all of my junk that I've put on it
-empty the dishwasher
-LAUNDRY!
-clean up the computer room
For my goals tomorrow:
-SHOPPING at Wal-mart for household items, the butcher, the farmer's market
I used to one stop shop at Wal-Mart, but the butcher and the farmer's market has better deals. I get a great deal for $35 at the butcher's shop called Meat for a Week, but it lasts us two weeks. My favorite is the roast. Mmmm
-Finish whatever didn't get finished today
-CHILLAX
I started researching PCOS again. It just makes me want to get the by-pass surgery. I used to think that was just for lazy people, but a) I am a lazy person and b) this is going to be such a whole life yo-yo battle.
I need to shift my priorities. When I'm home, the last thing I do is eat. Much less make sure I'm eating right. But that's needs to be my top priority. I've been doing much better lately with making sure I have fresh fruits and vegetables in the house. And I've found that I have really liked eating an apple after dinner. I made some delicious cooked apples Thursday night for dessert. My husband didn't think he'd like them, but he ate all of the leftovers!
I think right now I need to forget the cleaning and go shopping. I need to pick up food, eat something myself and come back ready to tackle the housework.
I think the PCOS will be either a great motivator or a great crutch and I need to decide which one I'm going to let it be.
TR related I think I'm going to have to FTB on some stuff. After this weekend, I'm just not in the mood to pick up a lot of older threads. I want to move on to new stuff.
I am obsessed with this song
Also I made my new LJ customizations to this song. And it's my Myspace profile song. I love that a) they sound so much like Relient K (melodies and piano) and b) they are from TN, Chattanooga to be exact.
ETA I forgot to dog update. I took Kira and Connor to the vet last week. Took them to my favorite vet. He hooked me up with this amazing ear cleaner that Connor LOVES! And he's been feeling so much better now that his ears aren't bothering him. He's been playing a lot more.
We took all four of them to the dog park yesterday. I brought Chakotay's soccer ball and some kid had a bunch of fun playing with him. Unfortunately, the kid didn't listen to me when I said not to throw the ball so I had to confiscate it for a short bit. Chakotay has high drive, even if he's fall over tired, he's going to go after the ball if it's thrown. And we saw three toy poodles in black, silver and white. They were so adorable! Matt even thought they were cute. They came over and said hello to him and were just so small and darling. (Eventually two St Bernards showed up and the poodles didn't get along with them.) We also saw Butter who is a mini poodle and is just to the softest, sweetest dog. We saw Butter last week too.

Heroes and 90s musiks
Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 04:18 pm![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
The funny thing about that is next weekend is the big 10 year reunion. We're going because I still live in the same town. Seems silly to pass on the reunion when I live here, right? Right.
All of that to say: Here, have some music I liked in High School. Today's theme is 90s SKA. The best was when my friend would ska dance. It never failed to make me LOL.
This video is hilarious.
This song gets stuck in my head. And here they showcase all the genres of music in the 90s!
Reel Big Fish's Say Ten As Bill Compton said in True Blood, puns used to be the highest form of humor. This one has always been my favorite from the Turn the Radio Off album. Nothing against vegetarians, it's just a funny song. (And just in case he talks too fast for ya, have some lyrics.)
In other news, I forgot to give my Heroes review!
( The Best Episode of the Season )

Friday, September 26th, 2008 11:44 pmSo everyone (and their little dogs too) have posted about the debates. Mostly it's one said saying the other couldn't have possibly won. Nothing wrong with debate. We need debate and competition (even if I am not good at either).
But I'm just saying that the debates ... meh.
Now if one of the candidates started singing any musical number from any musical, well that would have determined the winner.
Some ideas that sprang to mind:
Seasons of Love from Rent
Tomorrow and/or the Finale from Annie
Defying Gravity from Wicked
Summer Nights from Grease
Breaking Free from High School Musical
I Don't Dance from High School Musical 2
Do Ray Mi from The Sound of Music
But honestly any song would have been awesome. Musicals are so much cooler.
Is there really anything cooler than ending on a big finish musical number?

Friday, September 26th, 2008 02:54 amI love musicals. If I wish I lived closer to a place where I could see them more often.
And thus, I have two lovely songs to share today before heading to sleepy times. These are from Wicked sung by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. They are my favorite. I need to finish reading the book. And figure out a way to see the show in person.
This is totally a best friend song. Maile, I don't mean to pick your song, you just have great taste! I would definitely say this song summarizes my relationship with my first BFF.
And this is my favorite song. I just love their harmony.
I really should be asleep already, but I thought I would pick something up for dinner tonight instead of cooking because I had a bunch of errands to run. Now I'm sick from the garbage I ate.
ETA: I really need to watch this one too.

Friday, September 19th, 2008 11:49 pmSo I was going through my Ipod. I have a lot of parody songs from Napster. That was one of my favorite things about the old Napster. Now it's done mostly on YouTube, but it's not the same. That was back in the day before viruses were a worry.
I found this one. Remember this?! Also the song, being sung in the song is from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack with Claire Danes and Leonardo Dicaprio. I loved that version.
( And in cased you wanted to hear that one: Everybody's Free )
Anyway, I found that lovely Star Wars Parody version of the Sunscreen Song. Here it is.

Forget that RP meme that everyone and their uncle from TR is doing. I just started RPing on LJ. Previous to that it was on message boards and GJ.
And now for something completely different...
The Ministry of Silly Walks
It's not fair that a bunch of prison inmates can dance better than I can!
( To make it worse, a 10 year old can dance to the song better than I can! Of course, he gets double points for being just so gosh darn adorable!!! )
The Future Pups Section
( Everyone loves a musical! If they don't, they are either lying )
( I really can't wait for this one! But I've had no time to even start the app. )
( This song is so wonderful. It really makes me want to play him. )
( And because Coraline was watching Robin Hood, last week or so, I found this. My favorite Robin Hood mixed with a song from the funniest Robin Hood. )
In another recent (TR) meme, we were challenged to find one song the represented our pups.
This song gets me into a Hiro mood. I love the name of the group and the song. My mom used to listen to this group all the time and this was one of my favorites.
Zack on the other hand is really, really difficult. I considering All These Things That I've Done by the Killers. ( But as you can see, the song is much better suited to someone else. )
I like When You Were Young by the Killers much better. It fits Zack since everyone on the island who knew him, knew him they were young. And when he was young, the hurricane of Shin-Ra and their experiments started churning. It landed when he was still young (16). The whole beautiful boy speaks of the Aeris drama. ( When You Were Young )
( I love this one )
( I also love this one, but Zack's story isn't just a love story. )
... Still adding to this with more Zack songs as they come. Much thanks to anyone who plows through all of this.
Forget it. This song is the song. I'd like something with more substance maybe, but this song is him. Also it's sung by Lucas Grabeel and if I ever bring an HSM character, I will be Ryan. He had great fashion sense. ( Go the Distance. Although I keep seeing Danny Devito's character from Hercules in my head now. )

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 02:50 pmSo much going on today, but I'm having a lazy day which is bad. So I'm posting this and then getting some things done around the house. I blame that crack game.
- Today there's a lovely meme. It is filled with gleeful kudos-ness and I'm too busy tagging in that to return proper game tags. (And Maile, if you don't put your pup in cuz she's new, I'll understand. But my kudos to you is that I am still so squeeing that you have joined the mayhem! You rule.)
- I sent in an app last night. I should be nervous about it or at least a little anxious, but I'm not. Too busy planning and scheming. Like planning and scheming for my next pup. I wanted to bring Gus in for Shawn funtimes, but that novelty has worn off and I don't think I'll be bringing him this year at all. I'd still love to bring Jason Morgan from General Hospital for the LOL, but then I'd have to start really watching soap operas. I'm toying with the idea of bringing someone from HSM/HSM2. Singing characters are awesome, but I don't have the background so I'm undecided. I also want to bring a villain. As it stands, if I get this pup approved, I'll have two of the same characters.
And it's going to be tough not to play the two together. Zack could teach the new one a lot. He could help accomplish a lot of the reasons I'm bringing mystery pup #2 to the island, but that's cheating. Kind of. They really are so alike and I would totally have Zack tag him if someone else were playing him. It'll just be a matter of playing it cool. And any way if they do talk, I do enough tags in a month that it wouldn't be a matter of getting reqs.
- Buying some songs on Itunes. It's August so I get to have my monthly 13 again! I bought the Advent Children and Crisis Core soundtracks using June and July's song money. A great investment and yet I still haven't put them on the Ipod (because my case doesn't line up properly which prevents the CD-Rom/DVD-Rom tray from opening).
Any way, I had a list of songs that I wanted from back in May. This included four songs by the Strokes. Four songs by one band seems a little excessive, but I like every song that I picked. They are just so catchy. The Strokes are made of musical genius. Or at least musical addictiveness.
Also I feel I should download Phantom Planet's California. I had it a while back as ringtone and it's just a shame I haven't purchased it yet. As a matter of fact, buying it now. I liked it before I knew of the O.C and I had it as my ringtone back when I had a crush on Matt, but he was my supervisor so I couldn't say anything.
I've been listening to country music lately. I love the down home, simple life sound of it. I was big into country the last half of the 90s. I live in East Tennessee so you can direct those looks of doom elsewhere. And there really can never be enough steel guitar in a song. It's like cowbell. I have a tendency to listen to certain genres of music for a while and then move to another when I get tired of hearing the same songs over and over. My constant is Christian Contemporary. I just swapped to Country this week. The two prior to that it was Songs from the 80s. I love the 80s Flashback Weekend. And I discovered an 80s station locally that plays the Top 40s from this week in the 80s. It was awesome hearing Casey Casem again.
Just in case anyone is interested. These are my downloads for the month so far:
Breaking Benjamin - Forget It (This is my villain pup's theme song, I've decided. I could listen to it over and over in a loop.)
Phantom Planet - California
Leeland - Opposite Way
Paul Alan - To Bring You Back
Andy Gullahorn - That Guy
The Strokes - Reptilia
Carolina Rain - American Radio
The Strokes - The End Has No End
The Strokes - Hard to Explain
Mark Wills - Nineteen Somethin'
- Almost finished with Deep Space Nine. I don't know what we'll watch next. I want to watch all of The Mighty Boosh, but we'll see. We could always move on to Star Trek: The Next Generation. I've never watched it chronologically. Or we could do a rewatch of Voyager. There's Psych, but I think my husband will go crazy if he doesn't get a little bit of Sci-Fi at night.
- We started another weight loss competition with his parents. I've got a wedding to lose for not to mention health reasons. And they were losing for health also so we figured why not make it competitive. Thus we are going to work out at the gym tonight. I've been looking forward to working out. It's a little too easy not to be active. So treadmill and elliptical, here I come. I really should use the pool and the hot tub too, but I doubt I'll feel up for bathing suit.
I should make updates more often so I'm not cramming two weeks into one entry.
- And I almost posted this without writing about the whole reason for this entry! I'm getting a smart phone!!! I just got my ROKR in February for Valentine's Day, but the Motorola Q is going on sale to employees on Friday. Matt was going to get one because he's been wanting one all year, but we haven't had the $400 something to put down on it. (Employees get a $200 discount voucher, but he used it on my phone as my Valentine's present. Otherwise they pay full price for the phones. Yes, cell phones really are that expensive, the companies just work the cost of them into your two year service agreement. It's easier to invest $400 into someone when you can count on getting at least $50 out of them for the next 24 months. That's $1200 for those keeping score.)
So a Smart Phone means I can tag from my phone!! The unlimited internet service is going to be about $25 for me and $15 for him, but his service is free and mine is $15 so we are still getting a great deal.

Sunday, July 20th, 2008 12:23 amSoooo much plottage going on right now. My brain hurts! I am so glad I only have one pup right now. He was very uncooperative with this latest one. I wasn't expecting that.
bzzinglikeneon was totally pimping Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus earlier. I'm feeling old now because I still considered that song Pop, but seriously that had to have been nearly eight years ago that it came out!
On my way home today, I found a new radio station run by the University of Tennessee. It's an old jazz station. They were playing a Prairie Home Companion. It was such a blast to listen to. Music from the 40s and 50s.
There were a few songs that were patriotic. People being happy to live in this country. It got me thinking about how many people are so unhappy with the US.
There are certainly things with the society that need work. I would never say there weren't. But it is a great country regardless of politics. There are so many things for which I am thankful to live here. I won't list them all, but I hope you get the idea.

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 01:00 pmHappy Birthday,
magenta513!
Last night I had a dream that I was on Atlantis. Well actually I was in a puddlejumper and it landed on the water like some kind of motorboat. Only when it landed, we were on earth in the middle of a water-skiing competition. I was then taken to the shore; however, the ocean turned out to be a very large swimming pool. The motorboats were gone and it was in fact just a very classy, high-end swimming pool. It was really deep probably 10-15 feet, but had tapered ledges as it dropped off and got deeper. It was crystal clear too. And I was there with someone who was supposed to be my dad, some friends, and my not BFF John Mayer who looked like a scruffy Orlando Bloom. He was kind of emo and was writing some songs. Yes, while swimming in the swimming pool. Obviously this all makes perfect sense!
I have solved my Napster conundrum. I was listening to some Pandora hardcore last night. By hardcore, I mean I was listening the heck out of it, not actually listening to anything hardcore. Unless you consider The Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder to be hardcore. We are going with my idea of buying 13 songs a month. I wish I had thought of this idea sooner. My most difficult decision now is going to be deciding on the 13 songs. The first song I was going to buy was Goldspot's Float On. However, I have listened to the 30 second excerpt several times and the song is less then 3 minutes long. So I find myself over-thinking the purchase. It's pathetic really. I can buy things in a heartbeat that might give other people a pause, but a 99 cent song can take days of indecision! I got an I-Tunes gift card for Christmas, something I requested I might add, and I still had that thing in March! Eventually I just spent it all on one album so I could put myself out of the torture of trying to decide on one song. Still. If I had gone with this idea when I first signed up with Napster, I would have quite a music collection. LOL I say that as though my collection now is laughable. It is laughable only for the sheer volume. I was given the task of creating playlists for when we play XBox 360 games. Only I don't even know where to start! I need to start by deleting songs, but that is as easy as buying songs.
I think I'll start by narrowing my search field and giving myself parameters. Such as 2 new songs, 2 classic oldies, 1 techno song, 1 song from a game. Now I'll just drive myself crazy trying to get the proportions right!
I can't explain what I can't explain!

PS I'm also going to get my haircut today. Hopefully.
ETA I don't know if my friends list is familiar with Twilight, but this comic makes me laugh. Reminds me of Snape and His Unicorn which is soooo canon.
