I shared my early voting experience in this post.

This album was sitting on my desk in a pile of other CDs I need to put away. This is the first song on the album. It's a great traveling song.

My sister called and we chatted for a bit. That was nice. She convinced me to do NaNoWriMo this year.

I caught up with a friend from high school who I has missed at the reunion. As a result of some news from that conversation, I've reached out to some other friends. It's so fascinating to see my personal growth over the years. To find out the things I've become aware of. You know 12 years ago, friendships were a natural and important part of my life. Now they are very difficult to manage and maintain. There just isn't enough time in the day to visit with people it would seem. And now I had to make time. We only make time for things that important to us and having relationships hasn't been one of those things. Fascinating!

I'm cooking chicken and dumplings. Just the chicken is cooking at the moment. I've got to go cook some breakfast now too. I put in for a crazy shift at work. Friday and Monday will be 12.5 hour days. Saturday at 6.5 hour day. It's a 30 hour week and it's a crazy length, but I figure it's best to get the time out of the way. Besides, if you know you're going to be there all day, you just relax and let your mind deal with being there. It seems to go faster that way. But I'll need to get into the habit of making precooked meals or easy to cook meals, especially for Friday and Monday.

I also took Chakotay out yesterday for some training. We went to PetSmart. He did the Bambi on ice thing when we talked in the front door. He was pretty good though. He needs work still, but it wasn't that bad. I bought him a frisbee and then we went to the dog park. He immediately picked up the frisbee throw. That's been a lifelong dream of mine--to have a dog that catches a frisbee. I'd read all sorts of ways to train the dog to go for the frisbee. So it was funny that Chakotay immediately figured out what I wanted. He even managed to catch a few tosses mid-air! And as usual, there was a kid in the park who wanted to toss it for him as well. This kid was awesome though. Chakotay didn't like this one pug. I think he was trying to play with it, but he has a dominant sort of play that isn't a wanted behavoir. After a few skirmishes, I put him back on the leash. I should have brought the longer lead so I could correct him, but I know for next time. This kid, though, comes straight up to us. A big german shepherd on leash usually equals people giving him a wide berth. Not this kid. He asked if the dog was ok and immediately launches into what I would call guy play with the dog. That is rough house petting including give him the big ol' thunderous pat on the side. He was completely unworried about the dog. And as a result, Chakotay was immediately relaxed and went into submission. Now of course, I don't recommend everyone do this to any dog that worries them. It was only because I was standing there and I knew how Chakotay would react that I let the kid pet him. But still it said a lot for that kid and I was impressed.

Now off to finish dinner!

I've been reading Bridget Jones's Diary (I bought it at the used bookstore--I also like the movie better) and I find myself wanting to blog in the same style as her diary. Especially since I've read several chapters tonight. I have November and December left to go.

We went out to eat with the in-laws after work. We had Buddy's BBQ. It was alright when I ate it, but I have had terrible indigestion since then. I think it might have something to do with the horrible over-cooked nature of the chicken.

I mentioned my recent General Hospital fan realization moment. And my mother-in-law revealed she used to watch the show some 20 years ago when she was in nursing school. That and Days of Our Lives. So ... you wonder ... what is her favorite couple? Lucky and Liz, of course! I didn't mention Liz and Jason.

Oh bumped into childhood BFF with her husband and kids. They've moved back to town suddenly. Apparently the oldest, my godson, wanted to go back to public schooling (he was being home schooled). So he's at our middle (junior high) school and the baby who is four is going to a private (pre)school. And they are living next door to the home she grew up in. Her stepmother still lives in the childhood home.

Lastly, Chakotay thought our home needed some decorating. So he ripped up one of my pillows and made it snow in the front entryway. That was on Monday. Since then, he's found pillows I didn't know where hidden in places and ripped those up too. I think he's upset that I've been working on my days off. German Shepherds. -_-

Icon purge complete. I spent entirely too much time on LJ, but that's just how it is when I have days off. I get lazy! Which means I'll be spending the rest of the afternoon cleaning the house. I also switched back to another older layout. I don't care for the top graphic, but I like the layout of the links and the spacing of the journal itself. Oh! And I actually made some icons I like this time.

Oddly I was able to upload all of the icons I wanted within the 15 icon limit. I have so many pretty Zack ones that I was tempted to upload more for him. Also oddly, I paid for a month of service on an RP journal and not my personal journal. And with it being body switch plot, someone else is getting more use out of my newly uploaded icons! But I'm glad someone else is enjoying them or at least using 'em. And I'm enjoying being able to track comments. I hope to support LJ more in the coming months. With truck repair and water heater replacement, we're being cautious with our spending. Four dollars I can spend, but thirty-five on a journal seems excessive.

Chakotay hasn't been feeling well the past few days. He's been in pain. This means that he lays around moaning and crying and grumbling. His pain meds make him feel a little better, but he just can't find comfortable places on the ground. He is also extremely clingy. He constantly wants reassurance so he sticks his nose into everything I'm doing to get attention.

Connor's ears continue to bother him.

My brother and his girlfriend stopped by last night. Chakotay was friendly and chompy. We play with him too roughly and don't have enough company over to teach him proper stranger greeting manners. But he isn't suspicious or stand-offish or confrontational. I'm glad he's so well balanced.

Well I hate to do it, but I have a mound of laundry calling my name. So here goes...

Yay! I have three days off this week! I'm so happy to have time off, not so happy that I won't get the extra hour pay.

My brother will be back in town from Iraq (where he works for a contractor). Maybe today or some time tomorrow. We're going to a cookout tomorrow night at his girlfriend's house to welcome him home. He's back in town for his best friend's wedding on Saturday. I have that day off so I will be going. My brother will be the best man. And his friend who is getting married was the DJ at our wedding.

I LOVE corgis! They are just too adorable.

Tucker's breeder has several adorable puppies available right now. Including another litter from Tucker's parents, Faith and Llewy. I just love the black headed tri girl.

But my next dog is already lined up. When we get out of debt, I am getting a Collie. There's one still in Houston who will be named Zack if he's still there when I can rescue him. Otherwise I'll be adopting from a closer rescue group. And I will probably rescue a female since we have three boys already and name her Teyla.

Connor has another ear infection. He has been battling this one for a couple of weeks now. This has been the cycle since I got him. A rant ensues regarding veterinary care )

Well that turned into a rant. It makes me angry when my pet is suffering and the doctors think I'm just being overly sensitive. I guess I'll go call and see if Dr. Allen is in today.

ETA: I really don't like the way the receptionists are overworked at that clinic. Apparently an ear infection is something that can be scheduled for as far away as Thursday. I have to work on Thursday so how about Wednesday at 11? I know I had to keep talking over my German Shepherd who was being obnoxious as soon as I got on the phone, but whatever I say! Once again a case of me not being direct. What do you have today or tomorrow, I should have said. Oh well, I'll just keep doing what I do for Connor and maybe bring Kira in for her annual check up.
