Good news. My brother's new unit in which he was to be infintry is coming home in 15 days. This means that he is not going to Afghanistan. Here's hoping that he doesn't get sent anywhere else. He's been in the Marine Corp for three years. He has two more to go and has served two years overseas already.

Encouragement is found in odd places. Unexpected places. A guy from ClientLogic is leaving to work elsewhere. He sent an email which I had a chance to read. His words made me feel justified again for why I had left in the first place. Why I get so irritated when I hear stories about that place. The employees are placated, complacent and comfortable. They endure stupidity because they truly believe it is worth it to have the job. But these people aren't hopeless. There is so much talent and intelligence in that buildling I couldn't begin to explain. And yet we all believed that we should be greatful for the job we have for ... for why I don't know. In the end, it was to the point that I could not show up and waste another 8 and half hours of my life plugged into a phone. No one appreciated what I did. There was no support system.

But this all leads into what I wanted to talk about. I watched The Last Samurai again. I love this movie. I didn't cry as much as I did the first time, but tears were still shed. I love this movie because it reminds me of how out of touch this society has become with what is important. We go around carrying these banners of honor and to remember our ancestors and for what they fought, but do we truly understand? For what is all of this honor? Are we really about anything? We seem to be products of a super power. Enjoying our peaceful times with boredom as generations in the past have done.

There was a survey that went around LJ to list three things you hated. I would agree with the on that I saw: Capitalism. It does seem to rob us and turn us into whores.

Or maybe I'm too much of an idealist
