Early Voting

So we went down to vote early. The lady at the registration table says "You have a weird name." Well thanks, you have a weird face now give me my ballot.

Hello. It's not some weird voter's registration card. This is a state license with my signature on it. I'm also 28 and I've brought my husband who does not have a weird name. I also think there are weirder names than "Janina." I might have been more concerned if I came in with a license that read "Mickey Mouse," "Olive Oyle," "Pluto," "Grumpy Bear" or "Cookie Monster."

I don't mind them checking, but could you just check without the lovely comments about my name that I've had for 28 years and like quite nicely? KThx

For the record, I think "Janina" is a very pretty name, and while unusual, it doesn't strike me as "weird". It sounds very English-American. Now get into names like Miyori or Dagmar or Chinua, then you have a "weird" sounding name (geographically speaking).

Thank you. And also THANK YOU! That's what I'm saying. It's not that weird. It's really simple. I guess for East Tennessee it's strange because it's not Southern.

(Ya know, now that I think about it, "Janina" might seem normal to me because I was familiar with Gym Leader Janine in the Pokemon Silver and Crystal games... XD)

Have you ever had someone ask if you're named after someone? Because obviously your parents couldn't have thought of that one on their own.

Yes I have been asked that before.

My favorite still is when I get a call at work and they ask me to say my name several times, then how I spell it and then try to cover that they are documenting our conversation by saying "That's a pretty name." I just roll my eyes. Too bad they can't see my eyes. XD
