Merry Christmas!
Sunday, December 17th, 2006 02:32 amWell we went to our church's Christmas Pageant so to speak.
I personally really enjoyed it. I always take away something from the sermons and this Pageant was no different. I just love this little holiday shows we do. They are really far from little. But they are such a blast!
It wasn't really a Pageant as in Charlie Brown's Christmas. Or anything like that. It was mostly a musical event with some Shakespearean humorous acting. Let me reiterate. I really enjoyed it.
They start off with a jazz version of a Christmas song, but I can't remember which classic Christmas song it was. Something not too slow. Anyway, the next song is the instrumental Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Performed by our worship band, of course. This is the song from that house with the funky dancing lights which seemed to dance to the song. Well we had dancing lights in the form of the Christmas Tree Lights which were on the stage. It was lovely! I really enjoyed that. And there were several very cheerful worship and Christmas songs. Jenna did some dancing. I'm sure she helped choreograph them. And I just really get a kick out of watching her dance. They did a pop and lock number to a song. And the whole time I'm thinking "It's Nsync if they were to worship at a church." It was just amazing. I'm always blown away by that type of dancing. I really like it.
It was lovely. It didn't end with the baby in the manger. And I thought that was appropriate. Especially with our pastor. It leaves us with the misperception that maybe we can control Christ because he's just a baby. Or that maybe Christ can't help us because he's just a baby. Or that maybe he really is dead like all the other babies born 2000 years ago. But the show did it in a way that wasn't an Easter drama. It simply goes on to say that he is risen and alive and no longer just the baby in a manger.
I found it very moving. Mostly because I'm prone to that sort of thing. Which is to say music and plays. And also because the truth is very liberating.
So Merry Christmas everyone. Turns out it is just a birthday after all.
I'm going to the 11 AM sermon to see it again with my mommy!
