Angry Letter
Thursday, September 1st, 2005 06:00 pmDear idiots,
STOP SHOOTING AT PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU! ARE YOU RETARDED? There are dead bodies floating around you. Elderly and the young are unable to help themselves. And all that you can think about is how fun it would be to take on the National Guard. The President has nearly said martial law in Louisanna, but I really don't think the police want to start shooting civilians. STOP BEING DUMB BEFORE YOU GET MORE INNOCENT PEOPLE KILLED!
ANGRILY,
me
I was watching the news last night and the police got on loud speakers and announced "We will not be able to protect you anymore. We will be releasing the prisoners from the jail." And of course, people have been looting like crazy. And there were the snipers. And the story of a mother handing off her 2 month old to someone who was on a bus. What country do we live in? This doesn't sound like Mississippi and Louisanna. It sounds like some third world country that doesn't speak English. Have I stepped into the Twilight Zone? I would implore the people for morality, but is that something I could even expect? It's so bad down there, we can't even hear the GOOD things that are happening, because it's just tough to get reporters in. They might get killed for their car or their camera.
And gas?! North Carolina had to close down several gas stations. Our gas is only $3, but there was talk last night or rumors rather of $4.10/gallon and even of rations. If I run out of gas, then there will be no way for me to get to work. Maybe I'll be camping out here at work, but I doubt it since they won't let my fiance be around me because it looks bad. We'll see.
Katrina was sure different from just any other hurricane

Date: 2005-09-02 02:36 am (UTC)I cannot say if I was in the situation that I would not steal to feed my children. I would not wave guns at police...but I would find a way to get my kids fed. And I would probably hand my kids to someone on a bus if I felt that it would save their lives.
These people are living in a third world country at this point...they are having guns pointed at them for trying to get food, one woman on the news today couldn't get her baby to wake up and police just walked right on by her. It is sad, there are a lot of people hurting and dying and people in this country are not used to that. They expect help, and they are not getting it. They are royally pissed at the government at the moment because they feel the government is not doing enough to help them, when that same government sent millions in aid to the Tsunami victims and is over in Iraq and Afghanistan.
One thing that pissed me off were all the whiny tourists complaining about how their busses got commandeered to get out the sick and elderly. I wanted to reach through the TV and shake the stupid woman and say, "Don't you realize that these people are dying? And all you can worry about is that New Orleans is not nice enough to you because you are a tourist?"
The mayor is begging for help, doctors in hospitals are calling the Associated Press begging for news coverage because they think they have been forgotten. The poor feel as though they are being treated like shit because they are poor and don't matter.
So no, I do not condone shooting at people who are trying to help....but people who are trying to help need to understand how volatile this situation is becomming and the government needs to get some millitary down there quick. A couple thousand national guardsmen and police cant do jack with half a million people.

Date: 2005-09-02 04:08 am (UTC)I don't think people are immoral for handing their children off to a stranger. I believe in the Bible that tells a story of Moses who wasn't even given to anyone, but rather put into a basket to float downstream.
My point was rather to the idiots shooting at people. Please stop doing it! I almost agree with the President to just shoot those idiots. But then no one wants to accidentally shoot someone who is taking a can of soup.
It's a sad week down there. My heart breaks for those people. I question if what is being reporting is 100% accurate. Things start to get dicey when it's an emotional piece. I have to wonder if just because that's how the poor feel that's how it is. There is a definite lack of supplies and resources. I know that entitlement is a mentality that some poor people can have. This whole feeling that something is owed to them. Not every poor person has it, but my neighbors come to mind. When you start feeling like the world is against you and start blaming other people for things that happen to you, it's hard not to feel that way. That entitled feeling. I've seen it a lot in my dealings with lower income people at work. And even when I hold out a hand to offer something, this entitled poor group take it and hang up without a thanks. Not that everyone is like that, but I don't think it's like that down there. But I know even I felt that way last year. I started blaming people for my inability to find a job.
People who are trying to help shouldn't have to wear flak jackets and kevlar and arm themselves against AK47s weilded by gang members. That's just plain retarded. And these idiots need to cut it out.

Date: 2005-09-03 01:30 am (UTC)WTF. Are you seriously suggesting that these NO citizens are exaggerating their situation from a "sense of entitlement"? These people are DYING. Their children are dying. The elderly are dying. They have been completely cut off from the rest of the world and have had little to no help from outside sources for days. No water, no food, barely any shelter. Most of them were directed to the Superdome, told they would get help there and then were abandoned to fend for themselves. There is complete chaos as part of our country has transformed into a 3rd world country. The government sat on their asses and twiddled their thumbs for 3 days until finally deciding perhaps they should do something about that pesky poor people problem down in NO since it obviously wasn't going away on its own.
Have you even watched the news over the past few days? EVERYONE is questioning the actions (or rather, non-actions) of our so-called government. There is no exaggeration-there are hard, cold and very frightening and troubling facts to back up the questions.
I suppose you're "entitled" to your opinion but that doesn't mean it makes sense.

Date: 2005-09-03 01:38 am (UTC)People ARE dying. My relatives may in fact be counted among the dead. I haven't heard from them and I don't want to even think about their bodies floating somewhere.
Would you like to take any other comments of mine completely out of context and then dissect it?
Do me a favor: either read everything I have to say, which you can't seeing as you are anonymous and thus not privy to all of my entries, and then comment or else leave me alone.

Date: 2005-09-03 02:02 am (UTC)I know about that sense of entitlement and I know there are people that feel that way. I know there are people in NO that feel that way and have armed themselves with guns and have looted places. But I also know the majority of people are innocent people who just need some help and haven't been able to get it. And I know our governement has been saying 'No thanks' to aid when we should say "Yes WAY!" It's frustrating indeed. My prayer and thoughts go out those down there.

Date: 2005-09-03 11:00 pm (UTC)Pardon me... why in the world are you forcing the world to look at your titty? It isn't even a nice one at that. Its all blue and veiny... ICK
Now to your moronic response I'll QFT here.
Re: People need to own up to their actions
Date: 2005-09-04 03:22 pm (UTC)Sure all the poor people and sick and elderly could have hiked out with no money and nowhere to stay. You are the one with the moronic response.
I would loot to feed my children if there were no food around, period. I dont care if you think it is wrong or not, I don't really give two shits about what you think. If I owned a store, I would not get pissy about poor people looting it for food to keep their kids from dying. But then again I am not a selfish bitch and a lot of others are.
Ummm lets see, the Tsunami affected third world countries and a huge telethon was set up for that.
Anarchy already had insued.
The baby was not dead, she was trying to get medical help. And I never said they could do anything about it, I said they had to move on to other things.
Laws and actions did nothing for 5 days and even the President of this country admitted to not responding fast enough due to the people underneath him. So don't act like it was responded to well and everything was hunky dory because it wasn't. I have family in New Orleans who did manage to get out but friends of theirs who did not, so not everything I know comes from watching tv or listening to the village idiot of a president in the White House.
Try again.
Re: People need to own up to their actions
Date: 2005-09-04 10:36 pm (UTC)So because someone is poor they can't walk? Because they are elderly they have no place to go? Damn... didn't know that. Guess you plan on disowning your parents when they are not usefull to you. Wow, you are a great person.
Why bother looting... just hook your kids up to those nasty sweater monkeys. Oh and the being selfish part... as it seems don't you have a birthday party to plan during your matron of honor Bridal shower? and here you say you aren't selfish. Do you even think of others? Or are you the typical "user"?
Yes but the Tsunami took place later and the money still isn't over there, all the americans money went for that went to that fund is just NOW starting to trickle in. With our government we started releasing funds before it even hit. Fema and the state of Louisianna are to blame.
America donated over 350 million to the Tsunami and for the two states affected over 10.5 billion was released. Americans have already donated over the 350 million for Katrina and it hasn't been a week yet.
You see there are things called states and it is up to the Governor and Mayor to make sure that specific cities are evacuated.
Hind sight is 20-20 you could say that New Orleans had 40 years of warning since Camile and they new that it would flood one day. The Hurricane wasn't the problem, it was the flooding, which was fine till the next day when the levy broke.
Oh and toss some more curse words here, it makes you UBER cool. :)
Re: People need to own up to their actions
Date: 2005-09-05 12:34 pm (UTC)And my children have and always will come first and the 24th of September is my son's birthday. Not that it is any of your business at all, since Janina (not you) was there when both of my children were born. So why don't you stop talking about shit you know nothing about.
And by the way? Curse words are words, same as titty. It is the intent behind words that makes them snarky. And when I use them, I often intend them that way. Especially when someone who doesn't even know me, my family or my relationship with my friends jumps into something they know nothing about.
Have a nice day.
