Ahhhhh vacation!
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 10:50 amI'm having a great time in Florida. I've been in the pool twice and we went to look at the beach.
My dad likes Matt and has already said he meets his approval. He's really excited that he's a SciFi guy. And of course they're both gamers. They've played the same games and watched the same shows.
The house looks great! I love the colors of the walls.
We saw War of the Worlds last night. Phew! What they say is true. It really is a roller coaster ride. I was on pins and needles the whole time. You didn't even want to root for the main character, but you couldn't help empathizing with his situation.
No church today. Which is kind of sad that I'll miss out on worship, but we'll listen to the sermon later today when it's posted.
Instead we're having a party with family. Ethel has been joking that Matt will be the main attraction in which everyone will judge him and decide if he meets their approval! Poor guy, but I don't think it's really been bad at all. Everyone seems to be getting along great.
Breakfast time!

PS The drive was a PAIN!!!!

Date: 2005-08-07 03:35 pm (UTC)I'm actually reading the original book now. It is slightly uphill going, since it was written at the turn of the century and so they are using all kinds of phrases which sounded serious then, but funny now! It's still interesting though, just to see what they added to it for the film.

Date: 2005-08-12 10:09 pm (UTC)I'd like to read the book though. I haven't and I find that really sad of me.
That movie was awesome though. The fact that it was established pretty early on that all characters could die (like you said) and that all it took was one blast from a ray and that was the end, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. My thing question though: What's with Morgan Freeman narrating but not being in the film? :( When Tim Robbins appeared on screen, I was thinking "I escaped from Shawshank for THIS?!"

Date: 2005-08-07 08:04 pm (UTC)And getting the Dad's approval is always a great moment, very reassuring. And your dad is a gamer? My dad still doesn't understand emoticons.
Saw War of the Worlds too. What was that red stuff? I never figured it out.

Date: 2005-08-12 10:12 pm (UTC)My dad is a gamer and tends to forget that I am one too. Or at least he forgets sometimes. It was funny when we were down though because he was exploring areas of the game we'd already discovered! And we discovered games that the three of us want to get! So maybe we'll be playing a family guild or something. That'd be awesome.
The red stuff was some kind of flora I think from the "Martians." It really didn't say, but it didn't act like fawna so I'm guessing Martian vegetation. Good flick though! I want to see it again for the sheer "sitting on the edge of my seat" feeling. Those rays were freakish!
