BOOMSDAY 2004!!
Saturday, September 4th, 2004 09:59 pmI didn't drive down there because I would have had to drive to downtown Knoxville by myself and drive all the way back myself. And let me tell you that I wasn't too excited at the prospect of being in a swarm of 250,000 plus people. So I didn't drive down, I watched it in TV.
I was down in the thick of it Booms Day 2000. I missed the big show for Booms Day 2002, I think I was in the car and just missed it. And I've been catching it on TV since. It's a show that I can't wait to share with my children. The community feeling is alive and well at Booms Day!
So great show!! Not the best show that I've seen ever, but it was good. I didn't like it as much this year because the Oldies Station is gone and it's just the Hit Music station. So a lot of the classic songs were missing. That makes me sad.
Hitting the highlights:
- I LOVE the huge Blue fireworks.
- The rain fireworks are so cool. I just love those too.
- The waterfall fireworks. I just get so giddy when I hear that music and I know the waterfall from the bridge into the water is going to begin. It's just so pretty.
- I love the blood on the water/Jaws fireworks. It's so cute.
- Those fireworks set to the Jetson's theme song were so great. They really did look like folks from the future going to work. I loved it!
- Thunderstruck!! You can't go wrong with AC/DC!!
- The finale is so awesome. It just really kicks into high gear and I love it.
My only huge complaint was the lack of patriotic songs. AND NO ROCKY TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???!?!?!?!?!?!???!!!! There's a game tomorrow and they didn't play the I BLEED ORANGE THEME SONG??????
It's ok though. I have it on CD. That's right, folks! I have a CD with 4 different mixes of the same damn song!!!!!! I don't bleed orange every year, but I do love having a hometown team. Especially when it gives me a reason to bond with the rednecks. I could have a Kerry/Edwards sign out front, but if I had an orange house they would think I rocked! Oh and my neighbors--the crazy white trash neighbors--they've been told to vote Kerry! My sign is proudly out front, but I think it's too obscured by the front porch and may be moved further into the yard. That's correct guys! I live in Tennessee and we have a rockin' front porch. You could fit at least eight people on it easily. I also have two back porches that at least four people could sit on. Each. And I love it! I love Tennessee. And I love the rednecks. And I love the white trash! I love them all. I just wish I could knock some sense into them sometimes.
I've had years of cramped up city life. Trapped like a duck in a pen. All I know it's a pity life can't be simple again! ROCKY TOP! YOU'LL ALWAYS BE HOME SWEET HOME TO ME!
