If you leap away in the mirror of a bad dream
Sunday, November 13th, 2005 07:47 pmMy dad called to tell me the song he's picked out for us to dance to Father and Daughter by Paul Simon from the Wild Thornberrys Soundtrack. I've decided that I will most likely cry. Which isn't unusual for these sorts of things I've heard.
For my dad and I, we've always had a good relationship. There was never any abuse or anything of that sort. He's been kind of traditional sometimes. New aged at other times. The computer geek, sci-fi, gamer dad. He's been opinionated. And there's been moments when the distance has seemed more than just physical. But he loves me. He's just not good at saying it. He's always been awkward on the phone, not knowing what to say. Wanting to talk to my brother because they could relate on a male level. And yet he's always been the father who loved his daughter simply because she was his.
He's just better at writing it than showing it.
I wonder if he can play that song on his guitar.
