Kerryvan for Anderson County
Sunday, October 3rd, 2004 05:13 pmThe Kerry Van (Kerry Caravan) went extremely well yesterday. It important to motivate our base as well as motivate our friends and family. I really wish that I had thought of this sooner, but I should have gone door to door in the neighborhood and made sure that everyone was registered to vote. I drove around the neighborhood today and noticed that there weren't that many signs out. I simply hadn't thought of this and now it's too late to register in my county. However, I have volunteered some time on November 2nd to drive people to the polls.
I don't have a lot time to write at the moment, but I just wanted to say Democrats, don't get discouraged. Don't believe the media polls that would have you believe the race isn't as close as it really is. The most important thing to do is get our base out there and make sure we vote. Believe me when I say that the Republicans want to discourage us from voting and we shouldn't let them do that. It will be a close race, but it won't be that close of a race if we make sure that we get out there and made our choice known.
Swing voters, don't being undecided. It's pretty simple. You're either happy with the way the country is going right now or you aren't. It doesn't have to be any more difficult than that.
And Jamie, I'm proud of your for registering. Way to go, girl! I think you deserved to be recognized again.
One of the main things about the election is that people want to feel involved. I care about each and every one of you and I care that your decision about the way this country is shaped gets heard. Make yourself heard!
Lastly I realized on Saturday there are a lot more groups behind Kerry than I had imagined. I had no clue that the unions were behind him as well. I had no clue that a lot of the safety advisors to the union representatives were refusing to speak with those reps. I had no clue that they were trying to make it more difficult to even have a union period! It is important to have unions. ClientLogic is such a prime example of that. A union never could have worked there because BellSouth choose us precisely for that very reason: we could never have a union. And ClientLogic employed us for that reason as well. We were screwed and had to take what they gave us. US Cellular rocks right now, but my benefits and everything that I have right now is just based upon Jack Rooney, our CEO, being an upstanding guy with morals. He could at any time decide to be a bastard and take it all away. I do not believe that he will, but he could. Sportsman are behind Kerry as well. And the list goes on. You get the picture.
I called 5 people in the Miane area to try to get them to canvass. Unfortunately they didn't answer, but maybe you'll have better luck.
